Anonymous asked: What means to pilots have in the cockpit to fend of a potential hijacking?

I’ve gotten different variations of this question over the past few months for some reason and I keep ignoring it it because it concerns what we call SSI or Security Sensitive Information. One very quick and easy way to not only lose my job but face criminal charges is to publish the privileged information or procedures I know regarding security.

So I’m not going to talk about that, but needless to say I don’t think a potential hijacker would get anywhere near the cockpit door before a mob of angry passengers quickly and violently subdued him, like what happened with the Shoe Bomber or Underwear Bomber. A 9/11 style hijacking is, and forever will be, completely off the table. It would just never work again in this country because a plane full of passengers would never allow it. The vulnerabilities they attacked 10 years ago were not in our security but rather in our mindset.
